MOREWOOD — A Friends of the Morewood Library group has formed and is circulating a petition in the wake of the SD&G Library Board’s decision to close that branch and two others — Dalkeith and St. Andrews —early next month.

Nation Valley News has spoken with the principals involved and will have more on this story. But organizers of the movement are drawing inspiration from the Williamsburg branch, which was doomed to closure only a few years ago, until residents of that community successfully prevailed upon the board to reverse that decision, ultimately leading to the construction of a new and better Williamsburg branch.

Meanwhile, supporters of the St. Andrews branch plan on making their feelings known at tonight’s South Stormont Council meeting in Long Sault, according to the Facebook page Save our SDG Library Branches. The meeting begins at 7 p.m.
