Demolition Derby runs tonight in Chesterville; firefighters offer a shot behind the wheel

Chesterville station firefighters pose this morning (Aug. 27) at their Chesterville Fair booth with the donated former police car they've refashioned for tonight's 7 p.m. demolition derby. A lucky draw winner will be at the wheel, and tickets are still being sold on that chance. The draw is an annual fundraising tradition for the local firefighters who have entered a derby vehicle this way for the last several years. Posing with the machine are, from left, Bruce Casselman, Kent Merkley and Jim Henderson. Even after tonight's smash-up, as a former police vehicle, the carcass will go back to a specialty firm that originally outfitted the vehicle with closely guarded police features, according to Casselman.
