MORRISBURG — Halloween is just around the corner, and the South Dundas Chamber of Commerce marked the upcoming occasion with its ‘Season of Pumpkin People’ nighttime parade, sending several lit-up floats over village streets on Oct. 1.
The event coincided with the weekend start of Upper Canada Village’s annual Pumpkinferno, which draws thousands of people to South Dundas through October. Drawing from the spirit of that attraction, the South Dundas Chamber is promoting the creation of ‘pumpkin people’: scarecrow mascots — sometimes featuring a pumpkin head — to represent the people and enterprises in the municipality.
All businesses, residents and community groups in South Dundas have been encouraged to display pumpkin people of their own, adding to the ambiance of the area for visitors on their way to Pumpkinferno. The parade kicked off the clever cross promotion.
