CHESTERVILLE — Make a date to pick up one of the special 2017 calendars on the counter at Mike Dean’s Super Food Store in Chesterville. At only $2 each, all proceeds are going to the Dundas County Christmas Hamper Fundraiser via the Chesterville Lions Club.
A new charitable idea for the store, co-owner Gordon Dean says they took shipment of 2,000 calendars a couple of weeks ago. Two dozen photographic themes are available, from various types of classic cars and trucks, to flowers, gardens, landmarks and wildlife ranging from parrots to predators.
Sales have been good, with at least one theme selling out entirely by the time Nation Valley News stopped in for a photo of longtime store employee Marlene Droppo and a few Dean family members with the calendar collection on Saturday (Nov. 19). Droppo, 81, has been helping to ensure the calendars sell off in a timely manner. She’s turned a calendar page or two during her retail career on Chesterville’s King Street, beginning at the age of 13 in her father’s former store in the current Mike Dean’s building — 68 years ago.
