WINCHESTER — Recently, the diabetes team at Winchester District Memorial Hospital added new information and details about its education program on the institution’s website.

Meet the team, review session descriptions and read the diabetes newsletter. A brand new feature is the diabetes calendar, which outlines when and where sessions will be held.

The team supports people living with diabetes in the region. WDMH offers a variety of programs. The sessions are free of charge and patients can self-refer.

Education sessions focus on everything from prevention of diabetes to living well with diabetes. Education is available on diet and exercise, weight control, and the use of insulin for blood sugar control. Physician referrals are not required to participate in the program. To register, call 613-774-2422, ext. 6765.

“It is wonderful to be able to provide support to local residents,” notes Deirdre Cooke, a registered dietitian and founder of the program. “Education is key in helping those with diabetes to live well and to stay as healthy as possible. We’re pleased to provide that education close to home.”

November was Diabetes Month.
