EASTERN ONTARIO — The winter of 2016/17 just took a sixth school day off the books.
Student Transportation of Eastern Ontario announced that buses aren’t running this morning, Jan. 18. Last night’s freezing rain and ice pellets get the blame. It’s the second consecutive day that transportation to school has been cancelled and the sixth time this school year that inclement weather — or the threat of it — has kept children out of the classroom.
Yesterday’s preemptive bus cancellation coincided with what turned out to be an otherwise nice day. This story explains STEO’s process of deciding to cancel buses.
Schools remain open for parents who can arrange private transportation to class today.
