NATION VALLEY– Spring is finally in the air and so is the sweet smell of sap. The Ontario Maple Syrup Producers Association (OMSPA) is ‘tapping’ into what most consider to be “the first agricultural crop of the year”. They invite the public to join them this weekend on their annual “Maple Weekend Sweet Ontario” tour of 10 of their Eastern Ontario sugar bushes.
The festivities will include sleigh rides, pancake breakfasts and various syrup tastings. Local participants of the tour include; Barkleyvale Farms, On the Bend Sugar Shack, and Grampies Sugar Shack all located near Chesterville. Also check out Sand Road Maple Farm in Moosecreek. These Nation Valley syrup producers are just few of the listed operators on the tour.
The local watershed authority will also make the weekend even sweeter by “handing out free hot chocolate to visitors from 11am to 3pm at 4 of the Eastern Ontario farms participating in the event,” says Kelsey Smith, South Nation Conservation Communications Assistant. SNC will be at Proulx Maple and Berry Farm in Cumberland and Grampies Sugar Shack in Chesterville on Saturday. As well as Sand Road Maple Farm in Moosecreek and La Cabane des Gars in Fournier on Sunday.
Take in the samplings of syrup and pancakes and enjoy the sugar-making demonstrations, horse-drawn sleigh rides, and sugarbush trails and so much more at this year’s annual Maple Weekend. For full event details and tour listings click here or see below.
