CHESTERVILLE — Friends and family of the late Shari Boyd will be honouring her life and raising funds to cover off medical expenses with a benefit dance this Friday, March 31, at the Chesterville Legion.
Boyd, 43, the popular co-owner of the Chesterville Bowling lanes, was on the final day of a dream vacation in Mexico with friends when she suffered a brain aneurysm that ultimately took her life in a Cancun hospital on March 4. Her life partner of 23 years, Ron Robinson, suspended operations at the bowling alley and managed to get to his spouse’s bedside in Mexico before she died. Her life was celebrated at a March 15 service in Ingleside.
A gofundme.com campaign launched in the immediate aftermath of Boyd’s aneurysm quickly surpassed $20,000 toward a $30,000 goal — but has tailed off since her death. The hosts of the Friday night’s fundraiser event — Laurie Ricci Lacombe,Lori Prevost, Kate Kirkwood and Danielle Nash — encourage attendees to enjoy the food, drinks, and DJ music — and to donate as there is no cover charge. The event also features a silent auction and 50/50 draw. Doors open at 8 p.m.
“Just to let everyone know, the benefit dance is taking place. Please come out and help support Ron!” Kirkwood wrote in a recent Facebook calendar post promoting the event.
