Body found along Highway 417 in Russell County; foul play ruled out, police now say

VARS — Russell County OPP are investigating the discovery of a dead body on the shoulder of westbound Highway 417 in the vicinity of the St. Guillaume Rd./County Rd. 33 exit.

Officers responded around 2:30 p.m. yesterday (July 2) to the discovery of the human remains near “mile marker 88” on the provincial highway.

The investigation is continuing with the assistance of the Forensic Identification Services (FIS), Technical Traffic Collision Investigators (TTCI), Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) and members from the Russell County Crime Unit.

Detours were put in place around that westbound stretch of 417 while the investigation got underway but re-opened at 12:30 a.m. this morning.

Update, July 3: Police say they have identified the deceased as a 34-year-old woman from Ottawa. Her identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

Update, July 7: Police have now ruled out foul play and the investigation has been closed.
