Pedestrian killed on railway bridge in South Glengarry

SOUTH GLENGARRY — Three teenage males walking a portion of a CN railway bridge yesterday when one of them  was struck and killed by a VIA train, the SD&G OPP have revealed.

Police say a 16-year-old youth from Dorval, Quebec, lost his life in the incident occurring 7:55 p.m. near Celtic Lane in South Glengarry Township.


Paramedics transported a second 15-year-old male, from South Glengarry, to hospital with minor injuries.

A third male, 17, from Montreal, Quebec, was uninjured, according to the SD&G OPP.

Initial reports from the detachment had placed only two individuals at the scene of the fatality.

The railway was temporarily closed but re-opened shortly after 10:30 p.m.

An investigation is ongoing.
