WINCHESTER — Winchester Dairyfest is coming up this Saturday August 12, and what better way to get in the dairy spirit than to milk a cow and ride a bucking bull?

Dairyfest committee member Kristie Barkley Billings of Barkley’s Shoes and Accessories rallied to have a Toronto-based company send their mechanical bull to small-town Winchester for the occasion.

Billings explained that there were 12 local businesses that donated to cover part of the cost of the attraction. The balance was taken on by the committee itself.

Winchester’s Vince Zandbelt is providing the generator to power the machine, while Billings herself will provide the gas to run it.

The ride will run from 9-4 p.m. out in front of the old Foodland building on Main Street.

“The hope is to draw attention to the downtown core,” Billings said.

Set-up will begin at 7 a.m. and because of the early start and the long commute, Annette Angus owner of Terrace Green B&B will provide an overnight stay for the bull vendors on Friday night.

Thanks to the generous donations of local patrons, the bull will be free for everyone to ride.

The bull has different settings for various comfort levels.

Children ages eight and up can ride with a waiver signed by parents.

Those not old enough or brave enough to ride the bull are welcome to have their picture taken sitting on it.

Hart Entertainment will also be bringing along their milking cow and calf roping props for everyone to try their hand at.

Billings is looking forward to riding the bull herself. “It took me a lot of work to get it here! So yeah, I’m definitely going to take a turn on it!” she laughed.

She is amazed by all the community minded sponsors and said that it took “a lot of people coming together to get it here.”

Be sure to check it out yourself this Saturday between 9 and 4 p.m. it’s sure to be a ‘bucking’ good time!
