GLEN BECKER — A Glen Becker welding shop was consumed by flames this morning. No one was physically hurt in the blaze that destroyed Doug’s Golden Eagle Welding & Fabrication, according to the SD&G OPP and the proprietor’s son, Matt Casselman, who watched from the opposite side of County Rd. 31 as South Dundas fire crews worked to extinguish the blaze at about 10:45 a.m. By that point, black and white smoke billowed up from the carcass of what remained of the burning building.
While Matt Casselman wouldn’t speculate on a cause, he expressed gratitude that at least no one was injured. He acknowledged that his father, Doug Casselman, went to Winchester District Memorial Hospital because of the stress of the situation.
“Doug was taken to the Winchester hospital for precautionary measure,” confirmed Cameron Morehouse, South Dundas Director of Fire & Emergency Services. “He did receive a burn and was treated at the scene by EMS.”
Police imposed a detour around a stretch of County Rd. 31 through Glen Becker — at the County Road 28 Whitteker Rd. intersections.
