Highlight chicken barbecue Friday evening; main prize draws on Saturday

CHESTERVILLE — The Chesterville Legion held its late summer wine and cheese event on Tuesday evening, a regular highlight of annual Legion Week activities.

Village service clubs including the Lions, Rotarians and Agricultural Society all had representatives on hand for the occasion.

As part of the special week, Branch 434 wrapped up registration for this fall’s upcoming dart league and continued to build momentum toward Friday’s chicken barbecue and Saturday’s euchre tournament.

Branch 434’s new president, Steve Grubb, says it’s best to buy barbecue tickets in advance. There are no guarantees tickets will be available once those 125 chickens hit the fire pit. “The last two years, we’ve sold out,” says Grubb. “If you came in Friday morning, you’d probably still be OK, but if you came at 5 p.m., you’ll probably be out of luck.”

Buy tickets for $12 each by dropping in at the Legion at 167 Queen St. West or by calling 613-448-1997.

Saturday also culminates with separate draws for a large gas barbecue and a flat-screen TV — respective first and second prizes on the $5 draw tickets. Those are still available for purchase at Branch 434 as well.
