Police search for couple, family of four in the defrauding of Ottawa-area hotels

Ottawa Police have released this image of the two primary suspects.

Update: The suspect couple have been located, according to police, who are thanking the public and media for their assistance. The authorities have directed all questions on the matter to the Canadian Border Services Agency.

OTTAWA — The Ottawa Police Service Organized Fraud Unit is seeking public assistance locating a foreign couple in their 40s alleged to have defrauded approximately 20 hotels and beds & breakfasts in the Ottawa and Gatineau area. Police say their two teenaged sons are also involved in the spree.

The incidents date back to Aug. 4 this year, according to police. The duo — identified by police as Teresa and John Moorehouse — either make false complaints about their room in an attempt to avoid payment or leave without paying.

She is 42 years old, 5’ 7” tall, with medium build and long hair. He is 44 years old, 6’ 2” tall, with large build and light brown hair. Both are described as caucasian and speaking with an Irish accent.

Police say the family of four is travelling on British and Irish passports.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the Moorehouse party is asked to call Detective Shaun Wahbeh of the Ottawa Police Fraud Unit at 613-236-1222, ext. 5492. Anonymous tips can be submitted by calling Crime Stoppers toll-free at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), or by downloading the Ottawa Police app.
