Motorist attempts to elude police on Highway 401, intercepted on County Rd. 2

SOUTH STORMONT — A 20-year-old motorist is accused of fleeing police on Highway 401 during the wee hours of Oct. 22.
Acting on a complaint, SD&G OPP officers attempted to pull a vehicle over shortly before 2 a.m., but the driver failed to comply and continued up the highway — only to be intercepted on County Rd. 2 in South Stormont.
Police say that Matthew McIntosh, 20, of Cornwall is charged with Flight While Pursued by Peace Officer.
He was released and scheduled to appear in Cornwall Court on Nov. 21.

Williamsburg break-in

WILLIAMSBURG — A Saddlemire Rd. business was the victim of an overnight break-in, Oct. 22-23.
Thieves took Canadian currency, various tools and a Yamaha golf cart with the number 35 on the front, according to the SD&G OPP.

Fatality at Cornwall off-ramp

SOUTH STORMONT — A Cornwall man lost his life in a vehicle rollover on Highway 401, Oct. 23. Police responded around 4:30 p.m. to the crash site at the McConnell Ave. off-ramp, where the eastbound passenger vehicle had left the roadway and rolled over.
Emund Poirier, 61, was pronounced deceased at the scene, according to the SD&G OPP.
