Six Glengarry youth programs receive donations, thanks to SD&G OPP golf tournament

Over $40,000 raised from Annual Golf Tournament

ALEXANDRIA — The SD&G OPP Golf Tournament committee handed out a total of $22,750 to Glengarry Youth Programs on Nov., 2.

These donations stemmed from the 14th Annual SD&G OPP Golf Tournament which was held on July 15, at the Heritage Golf & Country Club in Lancaster. The remainder of the funds collected have kept in reserve for initiatives taking place in 2018.

The committee consists of OPP partnerships with the Centre de santé communautaire de l’Estrie (CSCE), Centre Culturel «Les trois petits points…», Club Richelieu Alexandria, Glengarry Inter-Agency Group (GIAG) and l’Equipe psycho-sociale (EPS). For several years, the tournament’s major sponsor has been Caisse populaire de la Vallée.

Six organizations received donations this year:

Jumpstart Foundation: $4000 was presented to the local chapter who have worked closely with the Alexandria Canadian Tire store in providing funding for area youths requiring assistance to participate in sports programs. Store owner Dennis Tallon stepped up to the plate and matched the funds raised, bringing the grand total to $8,000!

Concours de Talent Est Ontario: Le Centre Culturel “Les trois petits points” has hosted a talent contest for youths for several years in November. $4000 was donated for this year’s event.

Art for Joy: $4000 was presented to the Alexandria Richelieu Club to support an initiative that provides funding to youth wishing to partake in music or theatre programs.

Snowsuit Fund: $2000 was presented to the employees of La Caisse populaire de la Vallée to support their program of purchasing youth winter snowsuits to those in need.

GIAG -Youth Program: $4000 was presented to GIAG-Youth Program located in Alexandria which provides a variety of programs for youths to partake in healthy lifestyle activities.

The Glengarry Golf & Country Club Junior Program was also presented with $750 to support the Jr Golf program in Alexandria.

The tournament committee would like to sincerely thank all who donated and/or played in this year’s event, making it once again a huge success! See you in 2018!
