MORRISBURG — Highway Traffic Act charges have been laid in two collisions occurring the same week on County Rd. 2 in Morrisburg — including a crash that took the life of a motorcyclist.

Const. Tylor Copeland reports an 18-year-old South Dundas woman has been charged with ‘Turn – Not in Safety,’ following an Oct. 20 collision between an eastbound passenger vehicle and a westbound motorcycle at the intersection of county roads 2 and 31. The motorcyclist, Ronald Taillefer, 77, of North Glengarry, sustained fatal injuries when the other vehicle entered his lane that afternoon.

Copeland also reports that a 21-year-0ld North Stormont man has been charged with Careless Driving, after an Oct. 17 head-on collision involving two cars on County Rd. 2. A westbound passenger vehicle crossed into the east lane on County Rd. 2 that morning, colliding with another car travelling in the opposite direction, near Merkley St. The man charged was behind the wheel of a grey Chevrolet.

Both charges are provincial offences and fall under Ontario’s Highway Traffic Act. As a matter of policy, the OPP doesn’t publicize the names of those charged with provincial offences, unlike Criminal Code of Canada charges, according to SD&G OPP Const. Tylor Copeland.
