This past weekend the Rockets schedule featured the Papineauville Vikings at home, Saturday night, which was postponed due to weather, and a Sunday night match up against the St. Isidore Eagles.  St. Isidore was coming off a big win Friday night in Metcalfe 7 to 2, and carried that trend into Sunday night’s game, beating the Rockets 4 to 2.  The Rockets have been mired in a scoring slump for the past three weeks that has seen them manage only seven goals in the team’s past three games, turning the string of losses into an official losing streak.

The Rockets goals Sunday night were both unassisted, one on a breakaway by Justin Lefebvre, who made a wicked backhand move, and the other was scored by Tanner Barnett on a dump in from outside the offensive zone that took an odd path to the net.  Barnett’s goal was the only goal on 10 full minutes of powerplay time in the third after St. Isidore’s Captain Nicholas Souligny was assessed a match penalty for kicking and a major penalty for fighting at 10:09 of the frame.

As general manager of the team, frustration is setting in; it’s hard to understand how a team with the offensive abilities like ours has gone into such a dramatic slump.  The frustration is also wearing on our guys; hopefully they can continue to battle through and pucks will start going in.  It’s better to slump in November than in February.  The only fix to a slump is to continue working hard; our forecheck is weak and needs to improve which would  create more turnovers; a couple less passes in the offensive zone, and we need to get some traffic at the net in order to get some dirty opportunities.  We have some guys up front who have lost their way a little bit in terms of their style of play, trying to do a little to much individually instead of playing within a team structure.  It’s tough because everyone in our rooms cares, the guys are working hard each game, just need to gel a little bit moving forward, which we will.

This upcoming weekend we host the Gatineau Hull Volants on Saturday night in Chesterville; puck drops at 7:30 p.m.  On Sunday we travel to Prescott to take on the North Grenville Rangers in a matinee game at 1:30 p.m.

Thank you to all of our sponsors so far this year for the tremendous support.  Hopefully we will turn the corner soon and get back to winning.
