WINCHESTER — Calling all actors! You could star in an upcoming play with the Dundas County Players.
Their next production — The 39 Steps — was adapted by Patrick Barlow, based on the novel by John Buchan and the movie by Alfred Hitchcock. This production includes fast-paced action, inventive stagecraft, witty dialogue, hilarious physical comedy, and almost unbelievably quick character changes.
“Mix a Hitchcock masterpieces with a juicy spy novel, add a dash of Monty Python and you have The 39 Steps, a fast-paced whodunit for anyone who loves the magic of theatre!”
Directed by Tony Glen and assisted by movement coach, Amanda Burger, this production requires a cast of four actors, who together play several dozen different characters.
The available roles are:
- One man — age 20 to 50 — to play Richard Hannay — the protagonist
- One woman — age 20 to 50 — to play a German spy, a Scottish lass, and Pamela, unwilling partner to Richard
- Two others, called clowns (any sex, any age) to play a wide variety of characters: bumbling policemen, amusing music hall entertainers, brutish thugs, tittering underwear salesmen, a cheeky landlady, a jealous Scottish crofter and an unspeakably evil mastermind and his wife, to name but a few. Facility with accents, physical comedy is an asset.
Also required are costume designers and dressers, hair and makeup helpers, lighting and video designers, set builders, etc. who would like to help in any way please send a note to Tony at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Auditions are set for Saturday, December 9 at 10 a.m. and/or Sunday, December 10 at 7 p.m., downstairs at the Old Town Hall, Winchester.
