The Carefor-operated Centre expressed thanks for the $500 contribution. The sum comes out of $9,249.45 awarded by the Estate this year to local agencies serving the needs of the aged and poor in the city of Cornwall and the United Counties of SDG. Donations are made annually, funded out of investment income derived from the 1991 sale of The John Stewart Home, once located at 613 Second St. E., in Cornwall. The home opened in 1930 as a modest facility to provide housing for poor and indigent persons. To date over $246,749 has been distributed to appropriate agencies.

Representatives from the City of Cornwall and the United Counties constitute the Advisory Board, with the minister of St. John’s Presbyterian Church, Cornwall, sitting as a permanent member, to acknowledge the religious heritage of the late John Stewart (1833-1903). The deceased and his brother, Peter, were bachelor farmers, living and working the land near Moose Creek.

The Trust Fund is administered by Scotia Wealth Management. Applications are welcome from agencies serving the needs of the aged and poor within Cornwall and the United Counties. Please submit to The John Stewart Estate Memorial Trust Fund, c/o St. John’s Presbyterian Church, 28 Second St, E., Cornwall, ON K6H 1Y3.
