OTTAWA — With the region mired in extreme cold, the Ottawa Police Service warns motorists to be aware that railway crossing arms may freeze up and stop functioning.

The city’s police force specifically mentions Via Rail barriers as a concern, with the Boundary Rd. (Ottawa) crossing currently affected. Detours have been put in place around that site for an undetermined period, according to the warning issued Dec. 28.
