EASTERN ONTARIO — Pre-empting the forecasted weather system that’s expected to hit the region later this afternoon, Student Transportation of Eastern Ontario (STEO) has cancelled school buses today.

Schools remain open for students able to make their own way or brought to class with private transportation.

On its website this morning, STEO explains the decision to pull the buses for the sixth time this winter. “A significant system is forecast to move into the region in the early afternoon on Monday and into Monday night. Snow is initially expected in the afternoon for all areas, with several areas seeing the addition of freezing rain during mid-to-late afternoon. There is a strong potential for significant freezing rain accumulations in several areas during the afternoon commute making conditions treacherous. Wishing safe travels to all!”
