Charges for S. Stormont break-in; S. Glengarry teen girl arrested for taking truck

SOUTH STORMONT — A Cornwall man has been arrested and charged in connection with a break-in at a South Stormont gas station.

Cigarettes and lottery tickets were taken from the MacEwen’s on Highway 138, sometime overnight on Jan. 14-15, at according to the SD&G OPP.

The local detachment reports that 49-year-old Jody Burgess of Cornwall is charged with: Fail to Comply with conditions of probation order; Possession of Property Obtained by Crime (two counts); and Trafficking in stolen goods under $5,000 (two counts).

The accused was released and scheduled to appear in Cornwall court on Feb. 27.

A Verdon, Que., man was also charged earlier in connection with this incident. The SD&G OPP say they arrested Joseph O’Toole, 44, on Jan. 23. O’Toole has been charged with Break and Enter; Possession of Property Obtained by Crime (three counts); and Trafficking in stolen goods under $5,000. He was held in custody pending a bail appearance in Cornwall.

17-year-old girl charged after truck taken

SOUTH GLENGARRY — An unlicensed teenaged girl has been charged after a truck was taken from a South Glengarry residence without the owner’s consent.

The vehicle was reported stolen from a Loyalist Rd. address on Feb. 1.

SD&G OPP officers responded to the call shortly after 6:10 p.m., locating and arresting the 17-year-old female driver — with the missing Dodge Dakota — not long afterward. She’s charged with: Take Motor vehicle without consent; and Drive Motor vehicle – no licence (Highway Traffic Act).

She was released and scheduled to appear March 8 in Cornwall court.

Charged in gas theft

SOUTH DUNDAS — A Brampton man is accused of stealing gas from a Highway 401 station in South Dundas.

SD&G OPP officers arrested him Jan. 30 at the station located on the westbound side of the highway.

Police say that Robert Stojka, 43, of Brampton is charged with theft under $5,000. He was released and scheduled to appear Feb. 27 in Cornwall court.

Mutual assaults during domestic situation

NORTH DUNDAS — A married couple are both charged with assaulting each other during a Jan. 23 domestic altercation.

SD&G OPP officers arrested the man and woman, both 34 years old, after responding to the North Dundas residence shortly after 10:30 a.m.

Each faces an assault charge. The husband must also answer to a charge of failing to comply with conditions of a probation order, according to police.

The wife was released and scheduled to appear Feb. 6 in Cornwall court.

He was held in custody pending a bail appearance in Cornwall. Both names are being withheld to protect the identity of the victims.

Woman charged with assaulting boyfriend

NORTH GLENGARRY — A 25-year-old North Glengarry woman has been charged with assaulting her boyfriend during a Jan. 24 domestic altercation.

SD&G OPP officers responded to the North Glengarry address shortly after 6:30 p.m., arresting and charging the female after an investigation.

She was released and scheduled to appear Feb. 20 in Cornwall court.

 

Her name is being withheld to protect the identity of the victim.
