MOREWOOD — Previously delayed by circumstances, Bill Smirle is set to receive his Community Builder Award from an appreciative North Dundas Council this evening.

The award will be conferred on the recipient starting 7 p.m. at the Morewood Fire Hall. Tours of recently completed renovations at the facility will precede the honourifics, at 6:30 p.m.

Conferred annually on a deserving resident, the Community Builder Award ceremony features congratulatory speeches lauding the recipient’s achievements, followed by words of thanks from the honouree.

Smirle was named as the upcoming recipient during the township’s “Meet Me on Main Street” event in Morewood last summer.

The annual recognition typically includes congratulatory speeches from the recipient’s friends, members of council and  mayor, followed by words of thanks from the honouree. The Chamber’s dividing wall is usually rolled back to accommodate the larger-than-usual audience.
