SOUTH STORMONT — Highway 401 at Cornwall reopened to traffic late last night several hours following a collision caused by a man driving the wrong way on the highway’s eastbound side.

Both directions of the highway between McConnell and Boundary roads were shut down for several hours after the commercial rental vehicle entered the eastbound lanes around 4:15 p.m. and headed west against traffic, crashing into an oncoming passenger vehicle.  A man travelling alone in that vehicle was transported to hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries.

The uninjured wrong-way driver was taken into police custody.

OPP Traffic Collision Investigators (TCI) and SD&G OPP officers investigated the scene during the highway’s closure.
