CASSELMAN — Once again, the Casselman Vikings have defended their title as Jr. B champions in the Central Canada Hockey League Tier 2, winning the series against Carleton Place in Game 5.

The Vikings beat the Jr. Canadians 5-3 at home April 12 to take the Barkley Cup for a fifth consecutive year.

More than 500 fans packed the JR Brisson Complex to watch the final.

In a tribute to the tragedy that befell their Humboldt, Sask., counterparts the previous weekend, Casselman’s spot on the scoreboard read “Broncos” instead of Vikings.

The joyous team and coaching staff posed afterward with their hands splayed open to show five fingers, indicating the local sports dynasty’s tally of championships so far.
