WINCHESTER — The WDMH Foundation’s Donor Wall is one of the first things that visitors see when they come into the hospital lobby. It’s a place to honour and recognize those who have given outstanding financial support to local health care close to home. Now, a new section on the site also recognizes those who have made a decision to give a planned gift.
Planned gifts are a way for donors to help make their hopes and dreams for WDMH come true.
The most common type of planned gift is a gift in a will, but there are many other types like a life insurance policy; an RRSP or RRIF or publicly traded securities.
“For those who have ever wished they could do something, or something more, for their local hospital or for those who would like to pay less taxes now or through their estate, a planned gift is something to seriously consider,” explains Kristen Casselman, the Foundation’s Managing Director. “Because of Canada’s generous tax system when it comes to charitable giving, it’s pretty amazing what someone can achieve for themselves, their family and WDMH with a well-planned gift.”
No one is obligated to share their plans with the Foundation. However, by doing so, the Foundation is able to invite planned giving donors into their Society of Compassionate Care Forever. This is a way for Foundation staff and volunteers to express their gratitude to donors who have made this decision.
Regardless of the planned gift amount, one of the benefits of the Society is the option for donors to have their name published on the new donor wall. “It’s very meaningful for us to be able to thank and recognize people for what they are doing for local health care at WDMH. Our new donor wall will help with that,” adds Kristen.
“Your life’s legacy is important, and something worth thinking about and planning for,” sums up Kristen.
“We are honoured and grateful to work with donors who are giving a planned gift to the Foundation in support of WDMH. Thank you to everyone who is considering a planned gift and to those who already have.”
The Foundation’s new website has detailed information about planned gifts at www.wdmhfoundation.ca.
