Local man charged after ‘sexually violent’ phone calls trigger investigation by Canadian and U.S. authorities

SOUTH DUNDAS & SOUTH STORMONT — A 26-year-old local man has been charged in connection with “numerous indecent and sexually violent phone calls” made to various people and agencies in both Canada and the U.S.

Police say Ryan Munroe, 26, was arrested after the SD&G OPP executed Criminal Code search warrants at two residences — in the Municipality of South Dundas and in the Township of South Stormont — on April 24.

The action followed a nine-month, multi-jurisdictional investigation involving the U.S. Capitol Police, U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Brantford Police, The Royal Canadian Mounted Police, as well as the local OPP detachment.

Police say Munroe is charged with: Indecent Communications contrary to Section 372(2) the Criminal Code of Canada (CC) (six counts); Utter Threat to Cause Bodily Harm contrary to Section 264.1 (1)(a) of the CC; and with Public Mischief contrary to Section 140(1)(c) of the CC (two counts).

The accused was held for a bail hearing and appeared at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cornwall on April 25.
