CHESTERVILLE — The greenhouses at Andy and Elizabeth Brunner’s place are again in full bloom and doing a bustling trade.

And while it seemed as if spring took forever to arrive this year, the seedlings inside the four structures at A.B. Greenhouse have thrived and developed into a riot of colour.

That includes the operation’s specialty sideline of starting client plants and flower arrangements in their own pots. Many return year after year for this service, often reusing the same containers. As with the rest of their inventory, the owners nurture each seedling into a successful head start inside 10,000 square feet of heated greenhouse space.

In business since 2000, the Brunners have amassed quite a following among local green thumbs. Customers are drawn to their broad selection of both standard and specialized flowers — approximately 300 varieties are available — along with tomato, cucumber, peppers and a range of herbs to fill out any vegetable garden.

Beyond ever-popular annuals like marigolds, geraniums and pansies, the business is known for featuring a more sophisticated array of blooms — a whole alphabet of varieties from dahlias to zinnias — for the discerning flower gardener and consumer.

And because even the monkey flowers need help hanging around, the operators offer a variety of hanging pot arrangements and planters to contain all that greenery. Or bring your own pot and planter and make it a fun shopping adventure.

A.B. Greenhouse is back into its period of full-time hours, 9 to 5 p.m. seven days a week. Visit the operation at 13625 County Rd. 9 through the end of June.
