CORNWALL– It was a beautiful night at Cornwall Motor Speedway for the opener as the Modifieds were in the spotlight with the first round of the Draper Doors Canadian Nationals along with a complete race program in all other divisions as the night was sponsored by Mike Sauve Construction.

The Draper Doors Canadian Nationals Series feature saw Carey Terrance took the lead over Louie Jackson and Steve Bernard. Yellow was out on lap five as three cars got together in turn 2. On the restart, Bernard took second from Jackson as caution was back on lap 13. Terrance was still the leader as Bernard tried hard to pass him. Terrance was good in lapped traffic holding off Bernard and Whitteker. Mario Clair starting to make some noise on lap 26 as he joined the top three. Terrance still the leader with Bernard and Whitteker back in the top three. At halfway point, Terrance, Bernard, Chris Raabe, Whitteker and Steve Bernier your top five at that point. The leader group remained unchanged as the caution was out by lap 66. The laps clicked down as the leaders were back in lapped traffic with less than 20 laps to go. Bernard did a great move to capture the lead on lap 88 from Terrance with Raabe running in third. A lot of movement in the top 10 with less than 10 laps to go in the feature. A great battle in the final moments as Steve Bernard went on to win the feature over Terrance and Brian McDonald.

David Rogers to the lead in the Next Level Home Improvement Sportsman division as Shane Pecore was strong on the top side and took the lead on lap three as the caution was out two laps later. Pecore had the best car of the field as he moved away from Rogers and Brianna Ladouceur. Pecore was clearly on a mission as a good battle was going on for second with Rogers in battle with Tristan Draper and Ladouceur. Pecore led the remainder of the event and captured win number one of the season in Cornwall.

Jocelyn Roy led the way in the 25-lap Alexandria Home Hardware over Stephane Lebrun and Roch Aubin. A good battle for the lead with Lebrun trying to get first from Roy. Aubin, Dave Seguin and Marc Lalonde your top five. Roy resisted to charges from Lebrun and got the win, his first since 2015 in Cornwall.

The Tracy Wheeler Assist2Sell Mini-Stock was the first feature on the speedway as a few drivers exchanged the first position with Karl Potvin taking the early lead Potvin survived two red flags and went on to win his first feature of the season.

The action continues tomorrow afternoon as the Race for the Cure Sportsman will be the headline division with a 100-lap event along with a 40-lap Modified feature, Eastern Ontario Vintage Club and the Mini-Stock.
