MORRISBURG — With the arrival of a tugboat this morning, the Chem Norma is finally getting her assist off the bottom of the St. Lawrence River opposite the Morrisburg waterfront.
The chemical tanker ran aground more than 24 hours ago after a steering problem. Following an inspection by Seaway officials, the ship received the OK to proceed on its journey. A Seaway official explained yesterday that a tugboat’s help would be required if the Chem Norma proved unable to move away under its own power. Tugboats don’t travel fast, leaving the wayward tanker a spectacle on the Morrisburg shoreline as she waited rescuing all day yesterday and through the night.
