LONG SAULT — The first casualty of the ongoing strike is The Hydroplane Racing League’s planned races in South Stormont. Organizers announced June 5 that CUPE’s vote to continue the paramedic strike has led them to cancel this weekend’s event formally named Thunder On The River – Hydroplane Racing League Long Sault.

In a Facebook post written by the Salaberry de Valleyfield-based organizers yesterday, they explain:

The Hydroplane Racing League (HRL) has made every effort to find an alternative to this situation which is beyond our control. Several scenarios were considered but in such a short time it is unfortunately impossible to present the event.

“Therefore, the promotor, Parks of the St. Lawrence and the Hydroplane Racing League, have concluded to cancel the Ontario hydroplane race.”

The City of Cornwall and the involved CUPE local were set to talk again this morning after yesterday’s vote to carry on with the strike.
