Eastern Ontario high school ‘roasts’ beef industry carbon footprint

GANANOQUE — Students at Gananoque Intermediate and Secondary School (GISS) are set to learn a lesson this Friday on the environmental footprint of the beef industry.

“Did you know? One kilogram of beef is equivalent to 63 car miles, and 27 kilograms of carbon dioxide,” notes the school’s Facebook page in a post yesterday afternoon highlighting the upcoming Farm-to-Table Hub event, also coinciding with a ‘Meatless Day’ organized by a Grade 10 science class.

A student reports the scientific claim about beef production was verbally repeated over the morning announcements at GISS.
