SOUTH DUNDAS — The trees at an Ontario rest stop allegedly proved too much to resist for a Quebec man.
The June 19 incident began with a reported suspicious person at the Highway 401 On Route station, located off the westbound lanes in South Dundas. SD&G OPP officers responded shortly before 10:30 a.m.
According to the local detachment, the individual had removed several trees from the site and caused damage to the property.
Police report that 52-year-old Luc Grison of Boisbriand, Quebec, is charged with Theft Under $5,000 and Mischief Under $5,000. He was released to appear later in Morrisburg court.
The call that led to Grison’s arrest was just one 242 calls for service handled by the SD&G OPP between June 18 and June 21, in the United Counties area covered by the detachment.
Super speeder loses car, licence in Finch
FINCH — A North Glengarry motorist flew through the Finch at 111 km/h, only to run headlong into the tough, on-the-spot penalties of Ontario’s stunt-driving law. When caught, super speeders that exceed the posted limit by 50 km/h or more have their driver’s permit immediately seized for seven days and their vehicle impounded for the same period. SD&G OPP officers applied the measure June 18 after stopping the 42-year-old woman shortly before 7:30 a.m. in the North Stormont village.
The same outcome awaited another North Glengarry woman June 19 when officers clocked her speed at 133 km/h on County Rd. 20. The 19-year-old motorist was pulled over at 2:46 p.m. in North Glengarry Township.
A 41-year-old Lasalle, Quebec, man faced the same consequences June 18 for travelling 152 km/h on a North Glengarry section of Highway 417. Officers stopped him at 10:35 p.m.
Drug charges laid
SOUTH STORMONT — A suspicious person call on the Long Sault Parkway led to the arrest of Quebec man on drug charges.
Responding to the June 19 call at just after 6 a.m., SD&G OPP officers seized a quantity of suspected marijuana and cocaine after locating a male who was acting oddly.
Police say that Glen Stewart, 28, of St-Laurent, Que., faces two counts of possession of a controlled substance.
He was released to appear Aug. 16 in Cornwall court.
North Dundas assault charges
NORTH DUNDAS — SD&G OPP officers responded to a reported domestic situation in North Dundas, at just after noon on June 19. Their investigation revealed an adult female had assaulted her boyfriend on multiple occasions. Further investigation determined she had caused damage to the victim’s property.
The 21-year-old North Dundas woman was arrested and charged with; Assault (2 counts); Mischief; and Assault with a weapon.
She was released to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cornwall court on July 10, 2018.
SOUTH GLENGARRY — A single vehicle collision on County Road 27 in South Glengarry Township led to alcohol-impaired driving charges for a South Glengarry man.
The SD&G OPP responded to the June 19 incident shortly after 9:41 p.m, arresting Jamie Malyon, 35, of South Glengarry.
He was released to appear Aug. 8 in Alexandria court.
