Rollover closes Highway 401 westbound for several hours Tuesday

Man remains in critical condition in hospital

SOUTH STORMONT — A car flipped into a South Stormont ditch on Highway 401 westbound yesterday, triggering a huge traffic jam as police imposed a detour around the collision site between Moulinette Rd. and Dickinson Drive around 12:42 p.m. Three people were sent to hospital, one of them critically injured.

The westbound lanes didn’t reopen until 3 p.m.  A Nation Valley News reporter saw more than one ambulance on scene.

Police have not yet determined a reason why the vehicle entered the ditch near near mile marker 772. The adult male driver and an adult female passenger sustained non-life-threatening injuries, while a third man remains in hospital in critical condition, according to the SD&G OPP.

This article was edited with new information from the SD&G OPP, and the time of the collision was corrected.
