South Dundas imposes burn ban

SOUTH DUNDAS — South Dundas imposed a burn ban today.

With scorching temperatures outside, the area is drying down.

A South Dundas burn ban prohibits even campfires and fires used for cooking, a municipal communications employee confirmed.

That’s different from neighbouring North Dundas, which still allows campfires and cooking fires even during burn bans, under the terms of its own bylaw. The North Dundas website does not currently indicate that township’s burn-ban status.

As of 3 p.m. this afternoon, North Stormont Township seems to be the only other municipality with an active burn ban.

Update: North Glengarry also imposed a “total fire ban” yesterday, until further notice.
