LONG SAULT — South Stormont’s Fire and Emergency Services has joined the current burn ban trend. Effective immediately, open-air fires are prohibited throughout the township “due to dangerous burning conditions from the recent hot, dry weather,” the township department says in a press release.
Fire and Emergency Services will continue to monitor the weather “and will remove the ban when the conditions are appropriate,” it says.
South Stormont’s version of a burn ban does apply to campfires, confirmed Chris Hemond, Economic Development and Communications Coordinator for the township.
