Aussies help development of child pornography case against Ottawa man

OTTAWA — The Queensland Australia Police Service’s Task Force Argos branch forwarded an investigational package to Ottawa Service Internet Child Exploitation Unit (ICE) in late May.

This investigation was conducted on a photo sharing website commonly used to share illegal content including images of child pornography. During the police investigation, communications were exchanged with an undercover officer.

With the assistance of Canada Border Service Agency (CBSA) and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), the ICE Unit was able to identify the offending IP addresses as resolving to the Ottawa area. A production order was served on the Internet Service Provider which confirmed the address of the criminal activities.

The ICE Unit executed a search warrant at a residence in the Centretown area, July 17.

Steven Rutter, 24, of Ottawa was charged with:

*       Possession of child pornography

*       Distribution of child pornography

*       Making child pornography

Rutter will appear in court on Wednesday, July 18.
