MORRISBURG — Morrisburg went ‘looney’ on Saturday during the annual Tubie Weekend Parade. This year’s theme was “Looney Tubes”.

The winning float called ‘Tubie Tweety’ consisted of Sylvester, The Road Runner, Tweety in a human-sized cage, and most of the rest of the gang. The group was organized by Jordan St.Louis of Mariatown. The other team members included; Elese St. Louis, Katrina Geurkink, Kaitlyn Geurkink, Ryan Brown, Christyn Veinotte, Jessica Hartle, Ryan Froats, Valerie Stewart, Travis McNeily, Paige Morris, Aly Weegar, Danielle Quenneville, Eric Swank, Aaron Smith, Casey McNairn, Alice Cameron, Cole Veinotte, Tanner and Finn Hummel.

Their unique bird was handcrafted with recycled items.

“We actually made the bird cage from the frames of an old carport we had at our house!” said Looney Tubes team member Kaitlyn Geurkink.

The team was awarded $300.

Nation Valley News joked with Geurkink about how little each of the members would receive considering the large team and was very surprised of her response.

“We’ve actually been keeping all the winnings in a pot to go as proceeds to the followings years cost to build the float or pay out supplies used for this years.” Geurkink replied.

Other floats included a bunch of ‘beachy’ kids pulled on a wagon by a lawnmower, A Space Jam-themed float, and Saturday Morning Special, created by Cochrane Construction and friends.

Many other events took place over the long weekend as part of the Tubie Weekend festivities including; a Tubie Biathlon, Tubie Breakfast at the Morrisburg Legion, Tubie Dance, and of course the Tubie Race.
