CHESTERVILLE — The Chesterville Fair is fast-approaching and local residents are curious if the recent construction work on Queen St. (County Rd. 37) will affect parking and travel to and from the annual event.

Nation Valley News asked the SDG Counties to shed some light on the subject.

SDG Counties Transportation and Planning Services Field Technician, Dana Grant provided the following statement:

“Two lanes will be opened to traffic along County Road 37, and will be maintained throughout the weekend by COCO Paving.”

He also added that “COCO Paving will be applying two dust suppression applications/treatments per day throughout the fair.”

Grant earlier explained that although the road won’t be in the best of conditions, as they will be in the middle of construction, a layer of gravel will be applied and any potholes that are created throughout the weekend will be filled immediately.

But today (Aug. 16) the Queen St. road closure was put on hold as per the contractor’s request. Grant explained the closure was postponed “due to expected inclement weather.”

As seen in the image below, the revised closure begins August 27 through September 5.

Grant also stated, “Fair visitors should utilize the designated parking areas. Parking along SDG 37 is not recommended as this may interrupt COCO Paving’s regularly scheduled maintenance operations during the weekend.”
