Man charged with drug offences after industrial site explosion in Prescott

PRESCOTT — Police have charged a man with drug offences after an Aug. 20 explosion at an industrial building that injured another man and revealed the place to be an unlicensed marijuana and hash operation.

Grenville County police arrested the 36-year-old accused at the scene, following the 5:35 p.m. explosion at 205 Churchill Road West.  Officers, firefighters and paramedics all responded to the incident.

A 30-year-old man from Rear Yonge – Escott Township was transported by ambulance with head and face injuries.

The authorities seized marijuana plants, cannabis resin, cannabis oil extract, marijuana bud, brick hash, cannabis gummies, cash, grow equipment, grow equipment and two trucks and a trailer in a search of the property next day, according to the Grenville County detachment, which executed the warrant in coordination with the OPP Community Street Crime Unit and the Ontario Fire Marshall.

Police say that Daniel Zachary Blaber, 36, of Elizabeth Township is charged with:

  • Production of cannabis marihuana;
  • Production of cannabis resin;
  • Criminal negligence causing bodily harm.

Blaber was remanded into custody by the Brockville Court of Justice.

An investigation remains ongoing.
