WINCHESTER — The latest Winchester District Memorial Hospital (WDMH) Commitment Award recipients go ‘over and above’ – every day. Congratulations to David Scharf, Ali Elbeddini and Dr. Patricia Moussette From the moment you arrive at WDMH, David Scharf is there to help. As a WDMH volunteer, David shows compassion and respect for each patient that he greets. “He ensures that patients are not only directed to the unit they are looking for, he often escorts them there,” sum up his nominators. “He spends time listening to people and doesn’t rush anyone.”

Ali Elbeddini is also praised for his listening skills – as well as his professionalism and pleasant approach. He is one of WDMH’s pharmacists. His nominator shared a special story: “It wasn’t until my mom was admitted in July 2017 that I experienced the Compassionate Excellence. Ali came in to my mom’s room to explain her lengthy list of medications to her, and to my family. He spoke in layman’s terms and what I liked best was that he spoke to my mom directly. Even though we knew mom couldn’t understand what he was explaining at the time, he treated her with respect.”

Finally, Dr. Patricia Moussette is recognized for her innovative and collaborative style. Most recently, she developed the Winchester Intensive New Graduate Skill-Enhancing Program – or WINGS – to offer a creative patient care solution. The WINGS program combines patient care, physician education opportunities and exposure to WDMH and our region for physicians who may want to establish practices here in the future.” explain Dr. Moussette’s nominators. The program has been recognized by Health Force Ontario and the model is being shared with other hospitals.

The Commitment Awards shine a light on individuals or teams that demonstrate the values that result in compassionate excellence. Congratulations to all the nominees.
