Alzheimer Society of Cornwall and District Coffee Break® fundraiser returns

CORNWALL The Alzheimer Society of Cornwall and District invites residents to take a break, grab a cup of coffee and support their neighbours living with Alzheimer’s disease or another form of dementia. Coffee Break®, the Society’s annual nation-wide fundraiser, is back! A vital part of the Society’s work, funds raised at a Coffee Break support essential programs and services in the Stormont, Dundas, Glengarry, Prescott, Russell and Akwesasne areas, helping people with dementia, caregivers and family members.

In exchange for a donation, participants can gather for a cup of coffee with friends, family and coworkers and share information about Alzheimer’s disease or dementia, including how to help people who live with dementia to remain active in our community.  The more we talk about dementia, the more quickly society will get past the stigma of the disease and get people the support they need.

“There’s no place like your community to show your support. More than 3,600 individuals living with dementia and their families depend on our programs to maintain a good quality of life,” says an Alzheimer Society of Cornwall and District spokesperson. “This year, our goal is to raise as much money as possible, so we can continue to provide these vital services.”

Hosting a Coffee Break is easy and fun. Once you’ve chosen your venue, all you need to do is to visit the Alzheimer Society website to register. After that, you’ll receive a host package of materials that will help you create and promote your event. Some participants also offer tea and juice, add cookies or pastries to increase the donations, or use the coffee cup cut-outs for supporters to write their name on in recognition for their donation.

Celebrating 23 years, Coffee Break events raise more than $1 million each year thanks to the generosity of thousands of Canadians. Coffee Break events are held across the country starting Thursday, September 20 and continue right through to the end of October.
