IROQUOIS — The local award-winning construction company welcomed a slew of well-wishers as it marked 60 years of business on Saturday, Oct. 13.
Swank Construction’s founder, the late Peter Swank, initially set up shop with fellow Dutch immigrant Arie Geurkink — operating as G&S Construction — in the 1950s. The pair eventually went their separate ways in the early 1970s as successful area contractors. Swank’s company remains today as the family firm well known for building barns, houses and subdivisions. Its latest project — Dutch Meadows west of Morrisburg — will develop 54 acres into 177 housing units over the next 20 years.
The company is run today by Peter Swank’s sons, Henry and Ron, with the involvement of grandsons Jesse and Devin.
