Fire destroys Morewood shed used as apartment

MOREWOOD — Firefighters responded to a shed fire in Morewood last night.

The structure at 73 Main Street — which included an upstairs apartment, according to Morewood Fire Chief Ken Byers — was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived at the scene. Byers said the call came in at 8:17 p.m., and that his crew worked until about 2:30 a.m. this morning to extinguish the fire. Firefighters were still mopping up around 6 a.m. The Chesterville, Winchester and South Mountain stations also responded to the fire, with tanker support from Russell.

There were no injuries as a result of the blaze whose cause is “undetermined at this point,” the chief said.

The flames were contained to the involved shed, located behind a home on the residential property.
