The Rockets’ Launch Pad
Friday October 26, the Rockets were in Metcalfe for an 8:15 contest against the struggling Jets. The Rockets got out to an early 4 to 0 lead in the first period with goals from Sebastien Roy (Phil Brunet, Brodie Barkley 14:53); Justin Lefebvre (Brad Nash, Connor Roth 13:26 PP); Brad Nash (Justin Lefebvre, Connor Roth PP); and Thomas Leggett (Connor Roth, Justin Lefebvre 4:05 PP). The second period the Rockets found the back of the net one more time when Sebastien Roy (Phil Brunet 5:52 SH) scored his second goal of the game while on the penalty kill.
The third period would see each club exchange a goal with Brodie Barkley (Brad Nash, Brad Stitt 16:47 PP) scored from the point for North Dundas and Mike Armstrong (Mark Morrison, Jarrett Ladouceur 9:54) would round roundof the scoring for the Jets.
As General Manager of the club, I was very impressed with the quick start, and it was great to see Roy and Brunet get things going against they’re old hockey club. Discipline was an issue on both side during this game and special teams were the difference in the game. Also Reilly Tondreau was outstanding for us right from the start as Metcalfe really put the pressure on in difference parts of the first and second period.
Saturday, October 27, the South Grenville Rangers made the trip to Chesterville to face the Rockets on home ice. In a repeat performance of Friday night, North Dundas got off to a quick start building a 3 to 0 lead in the first period on goals from Justin Lefebvre (Brad Stitt, Brad Nash 19:06); Cameron Brown (Connor Roth, Justin Lefebvre 17:18) and Justin Lefebvre (Brad Nash, Brad Stitt 5:13 PP).
South Grenville would open the scoring early in the second period when Jordan Dodge (Cole Edgely, Brodie Ranger 19:39). The Rockets would respond on the Powerplay when Sebastien Roy Phil Brunet, Cameron Brown 14:55 PP) buried a nice feed in the slot to make it 4 to 1. The Rangers would cut the deficit again on goals from Cole Egely ( Brodie Ranger 11:57) until Rockets captain Brad Stitt (Justin Lefebvre, Cameron Brown 11:18) beat goaltender Lee Sturgeon through the five hole. Justin Lefebvre (Brad Stitt, Brad Nash 0:13) would tally the 6th and final goal for the Rockets at the end of the second period.
Jordan Dodge (Cole Edgely, Matt Giroux 16:40) started the third period scoring for the Rangers followed up by Jacob Boucha (Jordan Dodge, Tristan Loomis 12:08 PP) to put some pressure on the Rockets to retain a 1 goal lead throughout the rest of the period, which they did
The organization is very pleased with this weekends outcome, our leadership group in the dressing room lead by Brad Stitt, Brodie Barkley, Matt Cowley and Connor Roth in combination with our coaching staff has done an excellent job in maintaining the positivity despite the rough 0-4 start tot he season. Nobody panicked; we ironed out some issues as a team, and now things have been falling into place the last couple weeks with a 5-game winning streak. The additions of local natives Sebastien Roy and Phil Brunet have been an excellent source of depth, and it’s evident they are enjoying themselves here. Our goaltending has been excellent and we are hoping that nothing but good things are on the horizon as the season continues to move forward.
On a side note, Rockets forward Hugo Lusignan is out indefinitely following a severe laceration on his wrists that he sustained during the game against Metcalfe Friday night. The North Dundas Rockets would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Metcalfe Trainer and Former Captain Nathan Bols as well as local parent Aron Sherrer who both went above and beyond to help our club during this incident in a tremendous display of sportsmanship. Thank you from the entire organization.
Next weekend the Rockets host the Morrisburg Lions at home on Saturday night in Chesterville at 7:30pm and then travel to face the 7-1 Clarence Creek Castors for a Sunday matinee at 2:15 in Clarence
Thank you to all the sponsors and the supporters from the community that make junior hockey possible in North Dundas!
See you at the rink!
