NATION VALLEY — The flurries last night have put the brakes on school buses this morning.

Student Transportation of Eastern Ontario reports that all buses are cancelled because of the “treacherous” road conditions. Schools remain open for students who can make it there.

It’s the first significant snowfall of the ‘winter’ of 2018-19, and it’s produced the first ‘snow day’ of the school year.  The event follows yesterday’s Environment Canada weather alert. Snow is forecast to continue falling through this afternoon, before tailing off this evening, according to the agency.

As of 6 a.m., the snow blanket covering the region ranged from 7 cm in Ottawa to 10 or 15 cm in Brockville. Nation Valley News observed about 25 cm on the ground in Morrisburg.
