PRESCOTT A single-vehicle car crash occurred on Cty. Rd. 15 in Woldford Twp. on Friday November 23, around 12 p.m. Police were advised of the accident and discovered that the vehicle in this collision had been reported stolen, from the city of Ottawa, earlier that same day.

Prior to police arrival, a citizen stopped to assist the driver involved in the collision. The suspect driver threatened the citizen with an edged weapon and demanded that the citizen transport him in his truck. The citizen complied, and drove the suspect towards Kemptville. Shortly after, the suspect released the uninjured citizen, on the side of the road, and drove away with the citizen’s vehicle. Police attempted to stop the driver of this second stolen vehicle, but had to discontinue the pursuit due to the dangerous driving displayed by the suspect vehicle.

Shortly before 1 p.m., the suspect entered a gas station, in Spencerville where he threatened staff with an edged weapon and stole alcohol and cigarettes.

The situation came to an end on Rooney Rd. in Edwardsburgh/Cardinal Township, where the stolen vehicle crashed and the suspect was arrested by OPP.

SG&G OPP, the Grenville County Crime Unit, the OPP Forensic Identification Unit and the Ottawa Police worked together in this investigation. Witnesses are encouraged to contact Detective Belanger at 613-925-4221 or at 1-888-310-1122.
