Attempted theft of  Clothing Donation Bin — made of steel — in Prescott, successful theft of others

PRESCOTT — Would-be thieves tried to make a quick buck by attempting to steal a clothing donation bin. Grenville OPP were notified shortly after 10 a.m. Dec. 20. Police learned of the attempt theft of the clothing bin, located at the Canadian Tire Store parking lot, Prescott. That incident occurred at approximately 1:30 a.m., Dec. 20. The suspects were unable to remove the bin, but caused irreparable damage to it. Further investigation revealed that a bin located Giant Tiger, on Edward St., in Prescott  and the corner of Clothier and Prescott St., Kemptville were successfully stolen, during the early hours of the same date.

The thefts of bins is believed to be related to similar incidents in the Smiths Falls and Ottawa areas. Each bin has a value of approximately $1,000. This investigation is currently ongoing.
