CORNWALL — During this holiday season, members of the Cornwall Regional Task Force (CRTF) and its joint partner,Canada Border Services Agency Enforcement and Intelligence Unit (CBSA E&I), geared up, once again, to spread Christmas cheer throughout the city of Cornwall and the surrounding area. In preparation for the festive season, CBSA spearheaded a reverse advent calendar of non-perishable goods donation for the local food bank. Everyone actively participated in this great initiative!

The CRTF members and CBSA E&I were excited to once again participate in the annual Cornwall Santa Claus Parade. Officers, dressed in their traditional Red Serge or working uniform, walked with their family members alongside the decorated boat float and all-terrain vehicle distributing candy canes to Cornwall citizens. The children’s faces lit up when they saw the RCMP mascot, “Safety Bear” walking in the parade.

On December 14, Cornwall fighter fighters along with their mascot “Sparky” attended the CRTF building to collect the donation of new presents for numerous children through the Sparky’s Toy Drive. The toys were donated by the employees of the CRTF and CBSA E&I, and were distributed to local children and families that are underprivileged. We all believe that on Christmas morning, every child should wake up to find a present.

This holiday season, police officers, public servants and family members of the CRTF along with their partners from the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service, the Ontario Provincial Police, Hogansburg Akwesasne Volunteer Fire Department and Mohawk Tribal Police attended both the Tsiikwanonhso & Akwesasne Long Term Care Home in Akwesasne Ontario and the Iakhihsohtha Lodge for the Elderly in Akwesasne, Québec for their annual caroling event. The group, accompanied by the OPP Coppertones and the RCMP Safety Bear, shared a wonderful meal at the Iakhihsohtha Lodge after caroling for a room full of residents and staff.

The residents of both homes enjoyed having carolers and Santa Claus attend their facilities to spread Christmas cheer. This annual event brings together community

members to celebrate the Holidays. A big thank you to the Akwesasne Mohawk Board of Education who provided transportation for this event.
